Welcome to Japanese class!
Students will receive grades from in-class work, homework, quizzes and participation. There will also be projects for each unit. They will also receive conduct grades. I keep a conduct book on my computer. Each time a student breaks a rule or is otherwise demonstrating poor conduct their name goes into the book as well with what they did to get into the book. For each time their name goes into the book they get a check mark. The number of check marks determines their conduct grade. Name recorded for the nine-weeks period: 0-3=E, 4-6=S, 7-8=N, 8 or more=U. If a student gets their name in the book 4 times in one week they will be written up to the office.
Students will need pencils, loose leaf paper, and a folder with pockets.
Each student will receive a syllabus on the first day of school. It will include classroom rules and guidelines, a material list, class expectations and other such information. In addition to the syllabus each student will receive an expectations and guidelines page to keep in their notebooks. Assignments will be posted on this website.
The website has copious amounts of information on Japanese and on Japan in general. Assignments and other information will be posted on it weekly (usually on Friday evenings). I highly suggest that students check it every week if not everyday.
I look forward to you and I hope you enjoy learning both the Japanese language and the Japanese culture.
